Welcome to Falling Walls Lab Germany!

“Great Minds, 3 Minutes, 1 Day” is the motto for 20 young scientists who will compete in the Falling Walls Lab heat from 14:00 to 18:00 on Monday, 18 September 2017, in the lecture Theatre of the Central Library at Forschungszentrum Jülich. The candidates from all over Germany and abroad have three minutes to convince a jury of representatives from science, industry, and funding organizations that their new approaches and groundbreaking research projects can solve global problems.

The three best candidates from the heat in Jülich will then present their exceptional ideas at the final on 8 November in Berlin and take part in the Falling Walls Conference the next day. The aim of this conference is to provide a suitable platform for socially relevant approaches. The conference, also supported by the Helmholtz Association, was inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989. It was held for the first time on 9 November 2009, the twentieth anniversary of this historic event.

The Falling Walls Lab Germany includes a special highlight. Dr. Henning Beck will give a lecture entitled: “What is a thought? - How the brain creates new ideas”. The neurobiologist and German Science Slam champion will present complicated brain research in an entertaining and easy-to-understand manner. His talk (in English) starts at 16:15 in the lecture theatre of the Central Library.
